  2. The Spanish Inquisition wasn't as brutal as a lot of people think it was. Among its findings was that witches didn't exist and anyone claiming to be a "witch-hunter" was a fraud who should be imprisoned. One of the goals of the Inquisition was to stop a lot of messy superstitions that had gotten out of hand.
