  1. On the contrary: experts DO agree on why the Great Depression was so bad and long-lasting. No one rescued the banks from collapsing. The Fed wouldn't allow banks to help each other as they used to do, and the Fed wouldn't do it. So runs on banks weren't alleviated and there was a massive loss of liquidity all throughout the economy. What should have been over in 2, or at the most 3 years, took 10 and a long war. Even David Stockman, Clinton's Treasury Secretary admitted it was the fault of the Fed. We hope they learned their lesson.

  2.  @ThePlainBagel  it certainly was common practice amongst rural people. They'd been served by small independent banks for generations, and those little banks had long histories of sudden insolvency.

  3. It's because those other things you mentioned didn't have the overwhelming and long-term effects that the Great Depression did. The responses to it changed almost everything about the US, including the culture/s. Believe it or not we are STILL dealing with it.

  6. Oh no. It wasn't corporate boardrooms. That's the leftists favorite whipping boy. It was the federal government in cooperation with the Fed. These things are very well known.
