  2. They didn't "solve" anything when their plan is to just curtail the rights of individual citizens so that society at large is safer. That is textbook tyranny of the majority, the very thing a republic is supposed to protect you from. Last I checked, El Salvador was a republic. But clearly its more of an authoritarian regime
