Whether they have family in the UK or speak better English than French shouldn't be a factor imo because the whole point of asylum is to seek safety from persecution/war/famine etc - dire circumstances. Unlike economic migrants who can afford to move for more convenient purposes.

I just think this one contention they bring up is a fair one - specifically the issue of catering to the national preferences of those who claim they are fleeing persecution and whatnot. But yeah I suppose pragmatically, it's worth looking past that if it's going to mitigate our declining birth rates. Btw where you from? You said "your canals" so I'm assuming you're not British
