It's a horrible trap. It's kinda like being guilt tripped to not ever move out from home or to stay in the same city or country. Just in this case, it's this world.

Those are the lucky ones ironically. Sticking around to not hurt the ones who care about you feels like being trapped in a prison. Well, because it is. I'm trapped by guilt. I wish my folks would understand but they're very religious and won't. I wish nobody cared so I could be gone already and not feel bad

This is the part people forget. They will endlessly guilt trip you to not do it and stay here for what? Another decade? 20, 30, 40 more years when you could just be gone today? THAT is cruel I personally think it's a little different when you got kids as a responsibility but only you know your circumstances, man. Maybe you've been through something so painful that it overshadows the pain your kids will feel by you taking your own life
4
So what if the problem was temporary? So is having a job. So is being happy. Nothing is permanent, except death

Did he leave a note or anything to explain?
2
People are awfully unaware of how cruel they are when they do this. It's emotional captivity.
2
Out of curiosity, what made you decide on that method? Are there other methods you also considered?
1
I would never judge somebody who offed themselves and left their family grieving. I personally don't think it's a good idea for me, but if they do - I would never talk them out of it. More power to them.
1
@Michelle-rw7co I see. I hope you're doing better now
1
Movies are temporary too. Every movie has good and bad parts. Should I bother finishing it if it really sucks or should I switch it off and go do something else? Most people would probably click off, right? It's the same with life. Why not just end it when it's not worth it anymore? Why wait for it to get good? It might never get good.
1
Good to hear you're doing better but the "do it tomorrow" advice is dumb. Would he say that about getting a job, or signing up to a gym, or cleaning your room or any other thing in life? No lol
1
@riverrat5822 Yeah, I got that. The point is it's stupid to say that for postponing suicide and not for postponing any other decision like the ones I mentioned. It obviously went over your head
1
@riverrat5822 They aren't the same thing. Obviously deleting yourself is usually much more significant. But if the advice to not delete yourself is simply that you can postpone it, then that could also be said about literally anything else. That's what I'm saying. Following that logic, why do anything at all when it can be postponed?
1
@LuckyNobody1 Or you could just not exist anymore. There's that too
1
Yeah....no I want to die lol. Idk why it's unfathomable to some folks that there are people who genuinely just want to not exist anymore
1
@MirrortoyourNeurosis Ok well that was a bunch of gaslighting if I've ever seen it before And the reason I'm still here is because I don't want to put my family through the pain they'll feel if I end my life. But trust and believe, if they weren't here tomorrow or they gave me the green light, I'd be out
1
@MirrortoyourNeurosis You are trying to sow doubt into my explicit desires, by telling me I don't know what I really want. That is textbook gaslighting. And idk what the rest of that comment was but I'm not interested in parables or whatever, sorry
1
It's funny because that exact advice could be used to just not do anything with your life. "Well I can just get a job tomorrow. Well I can just work on myself tomorrow. Well I can just sign up to the gym tomorrow" So where is the actual wisdom in that advice? To prolong a life of emptiness? Lol
1
That's what I tell my parents who keep telling me to apply to jobs. "I can apply to jobs tomorrow" Thanks, Mr Peterson
1
@tekboi1984 I've thought this before. It's probably the best way to mitigate the pain they'll inevitably feel. Imo unless you have kids that need raising or other huge responsibilities, then nobody should guilt trip you into sticking around if you just want to end it. Fk em if they do for being selfish
1
@SapienSafari There will be other people like you
1
You can also start applying to jobs or clean your room or sign up to the gym or fix your life in whatever way tomorrow too and keep postponing it so nothing ever gets done in your life. But then that piece of advice falls apart quickly lol
