I couldn't agree more. Both sides got their arguments played out clearly. I don't think Jon's argument withstand scrutiny but he did as well as he could with flawed logic and leaning on definitions rather than substantive points with the weight of context rather than stigma

@mrichardsonmobile his approach isn't rational though. If someone wants to restrict someone's rights, especially law and the government, the burden of proof is on proving there needs to be restrictions, not the other way around. If there's suspected harm that can't be measured yet because it's so minute then there's really no justification for making it illegal. If we found there was a number of people pushing to euthanize their parents for an early inheritence then that would be a different story, for example. But the screening process is very rigid, and it's mental health professionals who are making the assessments not just some rubber-stamper at an office somewhere. It's a very rigorous and deliberate process so for him to make the argument that someone would be prepared to suffer for 10 years because one day they might be treated or cured, well it's not at all for him to say that 10 years of suffering is worth it because in his own admission we haven't found a way to quantify that yet. Just a couple examples of where he's stepped on his own toes.

@Atari-5200 it's a debate that needs to be had publicly, who cares who the people are? This is social ethics not a game show lol
