  1. Losing 50% of business in a year is bad enough, but losing that much business plus depreciation PLUS default risk of their debtors, PLUS the estrangement of the western economies... This is getting very serious

  2. Even if people were wealthy, demographics will eventually be doing this too. The economy needs to expect to contract a lot more than this, I'm afraid. Like 50% plus the overshoot that speculation causes would be perfectly healthy. That means a whole lot of people who used to run strong businesses will be bankrupt through no fault of their own, persay. That's what growth by debt does to every single economy we've ever known as humans. Propping up valuations and compounding that for decades has to have this effect, as does irregular population growth. Add the two together and there's a long way down from there. Try to stop or slow it and you'll only spread more pain out longer, and when compounding over time that can be far more costly than doing nothing about it. Build big safety nets and rebuild from the fall. It's way better over a lifetime for everyone imho.

  3. The issue of aspiring to civil servant jobs is a clue those jobs are disproportionately profitable. The blame rests with opportunity to fund small businesses. If young grads could start businesses which other grads could trade with in their small businesses, they'd all be self employed and customers to each other's businesses while also employing more young people as they grow. If everyone wants to "get" a job instead of create one, there will always be an economic problem because that's not how economies are designed to function efficiently.

  4. How is nobody even noticing the shoreline is a few meters from an entire island laden with heavy high-rises? Not only is it a waste of financial resources, and destruction of the sea, and the needless demotion (assuming construction was not botched...), but with rising sea levels the entire area will be underwater from a tsunami, earthquake or climate change within 10 years with a >50% probability?! So many levels of dumb by developers, government, regulators and purchasers my head is spinning
