Classic example of even educated people unable to grasp exponentiation... "every day it gets twice as bad, that means every week it gets more than 8 times as bad..." Actually, it means it's more than 60 times worse after 8 days if it's doubling every day lol ya, more than 8 is technically right, but widely inaccurate.

Or you could look at the data and notice a clear correlation between infection rates and severe outcomes.. speaking of misinformation. Nobody every claimed vaccines stopped transmission, reducing transmission to below an r rating of 1 was the primary objective along with reducing hospitalizations. Read science journals, not blogs.

Nobody needs to edit or control social media, we just need to educate people enough that they realize how much better life is today than any other time in history. Ignorance makes pathetic selfish whiney people loud about how terrible things are, and none of those complaining offer any educated solutions. Smarter people would be embarrassed to whine so much and act belligerent on social media.

Single vs couples is totally different. Your spending power as a single adult working is doubling all kinds of household bills like heat, water, mortgage, insurance, cable, etc. Those all have sales taxes, plus no credits without kids or sharing unused tax credits gained as a reward for having a bit extra to put into RRSP with cheaper living for couples vs singles. It's much more than 36% if you consider liquor, smokes, weed and sales taxes lol

@xythiera7255 I agree, that's why I included itemized examples of more taxes which aren't included in income tax calculations. But when you have a numbered corp to make your purchases through (expenses tax deducted), which you can earn shares which are capital gains taxed, and which can repatriate income to tax havens, then factors DO matter quite a lot. Especially considering the burden of tax placed on 70k and under income earners who don't have lawyers and llp to funnel their money through as a viable vehicle. The fee structures for filing make the option only available to the wealthy and that leaves hourly workers holding the bag for the deficit.

@user-gz4ve8mw9l that mentality is precisely why conflicts persistent indefinitely. It's naive and near sighted to assume that things that take time aren't as effective as the oversimplified alternative rather than putting in the work of communicating and organizing sufficiently to encourage collaborative constructive progress. Revolutions should be a last resort and we haven't yet even tried diplomacy or education, or public involvement with taxatiin structures, or reanalyzed of 1980's economic theories we'd otherwise already know don't work (austerity, trickle down, privatization of public services like school and health, minimum wage, BOC interest rates, just to name a few). You've given up without even applying known better solutions for the reason that known ineffective solutions haven't worked, and haven't worked quickly enough even if they did. It's lazy, to be frank.

Very necessary conversation, but way too many cuts in editing. One or two sentences is not a good way to carry an important conversation from several angles. All 3 could respond to every question with 2+ mins to respond and provide valuable insights. Cutting videos like this is not a conversation, it comes across as pushing an agenda even though I know full well that's not your intention.

@christopherjohnson9167 that's a fair opinion to have, I'm not saying you can't have that preference despite the fact I don't share it - but statistically speaking we ought to follow the data, if we're truly an elightened society. I say we 'should' all get vaccinated because that's what makes sense, not because that's how I feel about injecting substances into my body that I don't understand. It behooves us to be rational so we don't have another measles-like episode pretending anti-vax has any scientific grounds. People can have beliefs, but we shouldn't need to dispute actual data. We can dispute the interpretations and constraints to data, fine, but denying the statistical relevance of severe / long-term effects and hospitalization rates vs infection rates is not sound judgment by objective standards prescribed by our most educated scholars.

In case anyone questioned the difference between educated and intelligent, a judge of a free speech democracy felt a violent coup made more sense than getting elected into government to change the system... Having already been elected to office before. A judge who refuses to pay taxes... Who served in government... Who prosecutes criminals and was paid by tax revenues. I would be amazed if he doesn't have a brain tumour or something, that's just so incoherent lol

@jellyfishi_ The solution is to spread education and vote them out of office. So long as money is in politics it's still our faults for trusting a commercial instead of reading longform essays written by thoughtful scholars. We have access to cogent political discourse, we're choosing to misuse it because we're unaware of the importance of education. If we truly valued the internet we wouldn't waste our energy peddling misinformation, we'd be embarrassed to do so. Eventually we'll see more clearly, evolution is just a slow process. The most important thing for us to do is promote discourse and respectful engagements. If people can debate properly they'll eventually come around to start teaching others things too. They're clearly motivated to make the world better, they just don't have the sense to do it properly yet. We need an open culture of speaking and a free internet more than anything, not censorship and protections prescribed by the politicians who stand to benefit from said divisiveness.

No, I think the CCP is just using any excuse because they need information from a company and an excuse helps keep public appeal. Any excuse will do. While you're at it might as well rock your oppositions' boats in the wakes. Rattle the US stock markets. Currency is valued relatively, so higher rmb when you're on a spending spree is now more gainful than exploited hard labor under authority.

@cupofjoen if they're already going through the trouble of pull up a reference and quoting it and giving it credit in the liner notes and meta data, then in an effort to inform people it would be helpful for a broadcaster to include helpful information. Don't make this a laziness issue, they are already there, help ensure there are no misunderstanrujfs and just include a link or GQ code or something. It's free and useful and congruent to their existence / social function of being purveyors of useful information. They are media, it's not my responsibility to check where their opinion came from because I might get it wrong and make assumptions or impose bias, or anything. It's their job, don't coddle workers. Help them do their jobs better by telling them how to improve. All good businesses want to hear from their patrons. This would cost them nothing.

The people will suffer, not the ones responsible. This is horrible news if you have any compassion for innocent human beings with insolvant mortgages or retirement funds they built up after a lifetime of slave labour. Nothing could be worse than hundreds of millions of people suffering over greed and corruption of a few hundred individuals especially since we, the west, wind up being the sole benefactors escaping with decades of cheap products and deferred pollution.

@cndres9119 and by consequence it effects every country borrowing from, lending to, supplying from, and supplying to, China will be gravely affected too. So like, it's isolated to China if we ignore energy, food, textiles, electronics, infrastructure, pollution and human rights. Other than that the world is insulated from China's real estate market lol

@petercua6158 it is still collapsing since Lehman. Quantitative easing, 0% interest rates, ballooning stock market, fed buying corporate bonds, ETFs, allowing SPACs and now considering crypto. Look at market caps of the top 20 companies listed in USA, it looks like Zimbabwe lol It's like saying the titanic didn't sink until it was under water entirely saying Lehman didn't destroy the financial system. For the record, Lehman wasn't the cause it was the straw that broke the back.

It's more likely China is messing with the markets to anticipate stocking up on a dip that follows this disruption in fall. It's way more likely this is superficial to the long game than we can anticipate, bring so used to near-term political planning. China has repeatedly demonstrated its ability to play dumb while implementing multigenerational socio-economic transformations as they have. It's more likely this and the mining ban and the military threats, and trade route territorial claims in the sea. It's all related to larger plans.

Skeptics don't understand hedges. If only usd are legal tender with no alternative you're beholden to the country that issues usd. If there's an alternative even a global shock can be absorbed immediately. It sets el Salvador up to restart its own currency without having to hope on usd politics not getting in the way. It's just a hedge, there's nothing scary about el salvadora "bet", it's actually a contingency plan.

For perspective and context, the earth was flat seemed perfectly reasonable until long study made it obvious to even children of today that it's flat... An "oops" with DNA manipulation could perhaps only surface 1 or 2 generations later - not just monitoring for months but cross sampling over generations for DNA vaccines long term efficacy. It's really important to not be so cavalier in our hubris, we should know caution is warranted and not just alarmist. Look how long it took us to figure out zika's after effects less than 9 months after infection microcephaly after zika infection during pregnancy.
