Small scripts run nearly at C++ speed now, the problem with javascript being slow involved ads and async - but async is async no matter what language you're using and ads are elective by devs. My site is tiny and runs on less than 50kb. The entire site scripts can fit in CPU cache. There's no possible way for that to be slow.
