  1. As if gpu drivers for hardware acceleration weren't already the biggest barrier to entry for Linux... Man, I wish we could just get Mac and windows users on Linux but it's this kind of shit that makes it impossible for newcomers to feel at ease. It's just such a waste of energy imho lol important video, because it's a thing, but the thing itself shouldn't be a thing if we all agree law should serve the best interest of society and only prosecute where harm has been committed. There is no harm, Linux serves the entire world better than the alternatives, if anything Linux should be allowed to freely distribute codecs even if they were restricted by licenses. The owners of GPUs and CPUs that use these codecs should be awarded implied licenses and the software is free so nobody's worse off being able to use the hardware they purchased with software that benefits mankind. There's literally nobody being harmed by freely distributing h.264 codecs at this point. My fridge probably has an h.264 codec built into it lol
