  1. As a Canadian, USA tariffs are not at all devastating. Our trade agreements required us to sell below value to USA to appease arrogant neighbours. Without USA, everyone on earth wants what we have to trade if we no longer need to supply energy, plastics and lumber to a whiny neighbour amid a housing crisis. We'll be fine. Hey, I bet UK would have some use for construction lumber, cement made from our abundance of hydro and nuclear power we used to sell to USA, our fish, livestock, tech, and tech sector since our trained talent no longer gets to make 3x incomes working in America after our great schools train them. Have you any idea how much grain Italy and Egypt wish they could buy more from us? Canada is fine without America. We'll pirate their entertainment and sell resources to people who need and appreciate it. I bet UK would appreciate discounted oil and gas like we were offering USA (the world's largest oil producer was importing our oil for years. Now you can buy it instead, or Japan...)

  3. Here's the thing about Australia and nuclear: they're planning it wrong. Normally it makes sense to use nuclear as baseline power, supplemented by more agile power generation. But in Australia you can produce almost all nuclear power if you wanted to and it'd be fine to dump excess power during lower need times right into desalination plants to provide farmer with clean water instead of subsidies when available. It's not that complicated unless you get tunnel vision about how to plan for scale as if nuclear power MUST be constrained to 60% of expected demand. Just run 90% demand and have overflow feed desalination plants as a form of subsidy that doesn't come out of tax revenues in the process. Got too much clean water? Use the surplus energy to pump it up to an elevated reservoir or further away or replenish ground water tables preventative-like. There's a perfectly some and reasonable nuclear power plan for Australia but targeting a small plant is absurd in that country, they should be going for a scale much larger than conventional wisdom.
