  1. Governments and the media always need a juicy threat. I remember, in the 1970s, that they tried to terrify us with the nihilistic threat of an imminent ice-age. We would not have enough fuel, we would not be able to grow food, et al. Since then, the doomsday cults and their dire threats of extinction of the human race, just make me yawn.
