The difference was that the Vietnamese knew what they were fighting for and wanted to fight, whereas the US soldiers had nothing to fight for and did not want to be there.

The USA lost. Hanoi became the capital, the regime became communist. The USSR remained involved in Vietnam for many years after the war ended.

@altran1125 The USA finally accepted that they could never and would never win that war. The UK knew that it was a war not worth fighting and that it was not winnable, that is why it did not join in, even though it defeated the Viet Minh in 1946. The war was pointless, the USA constantly backed the brutal, murderous and corrupt regimes of South Vietnam and believed that they could fight using superior air power against determined and fearless North and South Vietnamese young men. Most people in the South supported the North by involvement in underground activity.

@AnhTran-pu7gw The Vietnamese were also conscripted. Even the regular US military had no idea why they were fighting there.
