Well, yeah, you could, or did, but there are a few features to pursue: memorable, unique, and reasonably compact. "Styx666" would have worked great...I suppose "hexenhammer" served to inject an all-important Norse flavor, but it also introduced a certain dissonance to the rhythm of the name that interferes with its recognition recollection.
