A "ritual" associates a behavior with an intention, repeatedly, to create a psychic tension that is, then, after sufficient "charging" by repetition, available as a source of energy to do the peculiar work it, the particular ritual, was designed for. The most "authentic" are the individual personal rituals, because power lies in the potency of personal connections--something unavailable when attempting to use someone else's rituals. However, mass ritual behavior, while obeying the same principles, can generate a lot more power, because every individual in the mass of adherents contributes a portion to a mass-charging activity. That energy can be tapped by performing the relevant ritual. But, because of the lack of inherent connection, the ritual must be performed to exacting standards...to achieve "tap"...hehehe...and, even then, the lack of inherent connection prevents an efficient power transfer operation. So, maybe you only get a little bit of what you were after...
