  1. Pete knows he's not going to make the long game; so, he's playing the martyr, the sacrificial lamb, to "unite the party", by throwing in behind Biden. This is so the party is PERCEIVED as united. There's no real danger of Sanders getting in, since the superdelegates would weigh in en masse to prevent it. But this is not a look they relish projecting; they'd prefer to make it look more...organic--AND legitimize Biden as a candidate. hahaha...lipstick on a pig...
