  1. Logically, if it's possible for an authority to be wrong, it may be wrong at any time; so, one must expect it to be wrong every time. This must be the background expectation in order to be able to detect the incorrectness whenever it occurs. But few people seem to realize this, seeming as they do to "believe" authorities they want to respect...rather than being the authorities themselves.
