  1. There's one BIG reason for hardcopy: certain payment. Lots of people don't want to commit to a "subscription", either to the hardcopy mag, or the website that some think should replace it. Though, I suppose, these days, you could "buy" a single issue in an online transaction. But I generally decline to expose my financial identity so routinely.
