"Pagan contentment"? Isn't that an oxymoron? "Peace, joy, and contentment to you." "Landru!" Contentment is only the final stage of Effort. Let it go when you've integrated a proper appreciation of your accomplishment (whatever it was). That's contentment's purpose and value. As a goal, contentment is PERVERSE! And I've always thought pagans were inordinately concerned with this "contentment". It's a "state", that's all. In and of itself, it is useless, an unworthy and perverse goal. In its proper function contentment provides the most conducive background for appreciation, but, unfortunately, also rumination, woolgathering, etc. Logically, the only way to know the greatest contentment is to know its extreme opposite--agitation, distress, disturbance, upset. discomfort, restlessness, uneasiness. THESE are the things that are USEFUL!!! You can't know the light AS LIGHT without also knowing THE DARK...there ARE limits, you know. Limitation defines Existence; the latter is a product of the former. Love your limits (and your limits will love you back)--that's the natural happiness.
