Some religionists "break through" the regimen of a given religion to a sense of the hidden source of legitimacy of that religion. The Christian mystics who advocated "slaying the mind" as necessary to allow union with godhead are among these few religionists who become open to a kind of inner awakening that urges the breaking of the religion's rules.
