  1. The "trance state" is crucial to magical development; the ability is indispensable! Denigrating it as "hypnosis", etc. is a safety valve for delicate people who would do themselves harm if they took it seriously.

A couple of scientists back in the 1970s did experiments with "mutual hypnosis" which provided the most fascinating results: the participants, a pair, essentially "shared" a common imaginary space, to try to put it succinctly. It would be fruitful to pay more attention to what "hypnosis" IS, and less to what it's called.
