  1. A "fad" is just a description of short-lived enthusiasm. Define "short"; define "enthusiasm". It's a social phenomenon that has nothing to do with the "diet" or "medicine" it attaches to. Intelligence expresses itself by making sense of everything; the value of that sense-making evolves. The word, "fad", is generally deprecatory.
