  2. I think Gowdy would be willing to come out of retirement for the AG job. It'd be a great fit! Trump appointed Sessions out of loyalty for his long support, thinking probably he could fire him easily, which is true, but managing the fallout, I think he's found, can be tricky. Managing appearances is what politics is about: if he appears to spat with Sessions, does that appearance have, uh, secondary implications? In the minds of the Washington establishment, even the slightest appearance is important, because they are uncomfortable with leaving appearances to be interpreted worldwide. The uncertainty over how an appearance will be interpreted drives them to "sterilize" appearances; look like every other mealy-mouthed politician issuing the same mindless patter composed of vague generalizations and implications and denials, so inherently inoffensive, and, therefore, safe from "misinterpretation".
