As a child, I grew up rather fearlessly, something of a hellion, I suppose. I liked horror/monster movies; I found them thrilling but not frightening. I've probed the nature of ugliness relentlessly, being a connoisseur of beauty. You can't know the sacred without first experiencing the profane! I've known fear momentarily, but I've never dreaded anything in particular as fearsome. Animals are dangerous; so is deep water. Being a poor swimmer, I suppose I feared drowning--it was the one way I particularly wanted NOT to die! But, I regularly entertained a variety of "death" scenarios, since I was raised a religionist. Imagining landscapes of hell was a frequent pastime activity, the more ugly and gruesome, the better! But, I NEVER WENT INTO IT! I didn't subjectify, or identify viscerally with, such conceptualizations. "Spiritual sovereignty" came naturally...There is no power in heaven or earth that can defeat the perfected Man! I KNOW that now, but, I FELT it then...
