Is Trump the "head", actual leader, of the republican party? I've heard, "yes", but I don't see how/why. What kind of clout does the party head have? Can Trump tell McConnel, "hey, I'll prohibit you from running as a republican in the future if you don't start helping me more."? Otherwise, it's obviously meaningless for the president to be the "head" of his party--it's not true. At most, he's the party's symbolic head, impotent in internal party matters, wielding no power. Why aren't the repubs on board with Trump? Because they are political animals, concerned only for the persistence of their jobs; they don't care about the work they do, or the country they supposedly do it for. That's why, ultimately, representative government cannot work without corruption; then, even at its best, it doesn't work WELL--only well enough.
