  1. Exuberant engineers eschew "guardrails". Thrills come from throwing caution to the wind...Putting guardrails on genetic engineering hasn't gone well, either. "Laws" are the guardrails we try to use to limit criminal activity, also not working very well. How do you put guardrails on enthusiasm and excitement! There are those who, for a variety of reasons, want to participate in an ordered society; others want to participate in a disordered society. These groups of people are inherently incompatible.
