The crowd is willing to be led if the way to go is not obvious. But language in the social sphere is everybody's business, so words are developed and applied as seems appropriate to individuals. If the usage spreads sufficiently the word finds a niche of adoption. But one word's as good as another whether deliberately designed or organically derived.
