  2. Road construction in the US is cheap ass, so the roads fail sooner. In Europe, they use more robust technology in road construction, so they last 10 times as long, though cost of construction is 2-3 times greater. Sensible people see the advantage of paying a little more for a much better road. Americans like to low-ball everything--they think that's thrifty, not inefficient, which is not a sensible perspective.
