  1. Pop music used to have instrumentation! All of these seemed sparsely instrumented. The vocal stylings are remarkably similar: "hurt", is a way to describe it, voices on the edge of cracking...because they wanna cry. Rick is so kind in his appraisals!

  5. I don't know how soon, but I'm convinced it will change. I could swear we've been this way before. The industry rode a wave of artistry to a position of great power over its content. Bands used to complain about management intruding on artistic decisions. Business efficiencies have gradually driven artistic talent out of the equation. Now they sell excellence instead of art. But when all the music sounds perfectly similar, nothing catches the listeners ear. Smart business people will eventually realize the magical attraction genuine originality has. "What was that?!" is the thought that accompanies the hearing of something unique. The corporate machine just can't produce uniqueness!
