  1. The system's business is to produce conformity. That's what such "rules", as speech pre-approval, are for. Graduation is not a venue for self-expression; it's a showcase produced by the school for the benefit of parents and the school's reputation. The graduation ceremony is not mandatory! "It's showtime!"

  2. It's always curious to me how our "inalienable rights" can be so routinely alienated from us. Similarly, I've found it mysterious how a person could be perceived as having "surrendered" a right, or two, or three. If I've got rights, and they are not separable from me, then neither can I surrender them, nor can they be removed from me. But that is to say nothing of the system not treating you in a way that respects your rights. I still have them whether you recognize that fact or not. Else the whole "inalienable rights" business is all just bullshit.
