  2. Ukraine is NOT an "ally" of the US--except in a colloquial sense. "Alliances" are political entities required signed agreements in order to be recognizable. In the bygone era of superficially responsible journalism, the term to use was "friend", in the absence of an actual alliance. But the left has discovered the utility of confusion caused by using colloquial terminology in a political context. And like a dog with a bone...
