  1. I don't think most couples practice "family planning". Pregnancy has a way of just happening! Then you have a family. Therefore, any reduction in birthrates would fall to male fertility, which has been on the decline, possibly because of hormone disruption caused by environmental pollution. It might be instructive to graph the decline in fertility against the decline of the birthrate.

  3. To borrow a phrase, "guilt is a social construct"...hehehe...and a terror for those for whom only the collective exists. The individual is naturally guilt-free.
