  1. You could be talking about Sam Harris, but Robert seems genuinely annoyed by Jordan's hyperbolic generalizations. Robert's style is "peak engagement", and Jordan's exaggerated language is a stumbling block to Robert as he assembles his interpretation of Jordan's speech. Robert sees the discussion symbolically in his "mind's eye"; he is so practiced that he sees the developing pattern before his eyes even when they are open. He's building as he goes...and when he needs a brick Jordan hands him a ham sandwich...hehehe...it's a little like that...

  3. It's not necessary to be so attached to your thoughts that you cannot have any and every possible thought. The artificial blockage of thought may well be convenient (though, later, problematic), but it's not necessary, given the relevant skills.
