  1. People know they're not supposed to be physically violent, but they don't know how to defend themselves verbally, so they resort to physical violence. Not being able to defend themselves confidently verbally, they fear confrontations which could subject them to verbal "attack"; this encourages a pervasive passivity, in avoidance. "Confrontation" is the critical social event plaguing everyone's prospects.
