  1. Do these recordings benefit/protect Trump? Maybe it'll work out that way. But the only other reason I can think of to secretly tape somebody would be to blackmail them in the future. I reject the idea that these recordings were undertaken by Cohen to protect himself because the best protection for Cohen would have been NO RECORDINGS, no evidence.
