  1. "Losing one's life" isn't solely a matter of physically dying!! Get real! If you paralyze me, my life IS LOST to me and to the world! In fact, the same could be said of ANY assault, of any sort! The damage caused by a strike to the head, may kill me 10 years later! You don't know! ANY assault has the potential to destroy my life! Therefore, I am obliged, indeed, entitled, by Nature, if you'll accept no lesser authority, to repel assault with whatever intensity I can muster--after all, my life hangs in the balance of the moment! The very idea of "proportional" force is contextually illogical. But some demented people eschew common sense as socially unjust. Can you afford to humor them?

  2. Primitive justice would sentence the would-be murderer to a life of indentured servitude to the victim's estate! Sounds fair, but I expect he'll be released, no bail, to disappear amidst the madding crowd. Isn't that the style of justice in woke NY!
