"Looking up and to the left is a sign of deception"...is an idea from NLP, NeuroLinguisticProgramming, that identifies different meaning for visually accessing the "quandrants". However, he gets it exactly wrong, as is the common practice in mass media: a right-handed/left-brained person will access his upper right visual field when he is constructing something visual, and the lower right visual field when he is constructing something to say. THIS would indicate possible deception. The upper left visual field is accessed to remember something you've seen, and the lower left, something you heard, which would be straight-up memory--the truth. X-Files did the same switch-up, probably to obscure the technique so as to preserve its utility. But, I read the book! hehehe
