Yeah, I think programmers are expected wear too many hats, so to speak. Coding is borderline stupid/boring; the programming work is higher level interface philosophy stuff, which isn't programming--it's "requirements extraction", the process of extracting the customer's interface requirements, which they can never articulate in a useful way. It's not fair to put that hat on a programmer..."not my wheelhouse"...But managers are invariably sociopathic idiots who settle for the easiest way to wiggle free for lunch. That's workplace politics...a different topic entirely, but they intersect annoyingly. Use your expertise and reputation to poke little holes in their hair-brained ideas. That's all you can do...
