  2. After winning 4 gold medals in the 1936 Games, Jesse Owens went back to the US to attend a reception in his honor. Going to the Waldorf Astoria, he was forced to take the freight elevator because he was black and not allowed to ride in the "white" elevators. To me, that absolutely defines the stupidity and ugliness of prejudice.

  3. As part of a move toward making christianity the official religion, the ancient Olympic Games were suppressed by either Theodosius I in AD 393 or by his grandson Theodosius II in AD 435. The games would not return for 2000 years! In 1896 they were brought back and held in Athens, Greece.
