You are in for a rich treat! My dad read all the stories to me as a kid, and when I was old enough, I looked up Kiplings history, then the history of the time he lived in, then became a complete addict to all the authors of his time. A whole world I never knew existed started with his stories...

@bjorntoulouse7523 We must be the almost the same age! I grew up in Palo Alto, California and those stories were worlds away from anything I was familiar with. I loved them!

The story of Anglo Indian families is so unbearably sad. Families separated, longing to be in England when in India, and longing for India while on leave in England. Siblings were sequestered in different schools and had no relationship with each other. The English boarding school practice of constant sexual abuse and rape of boys as young as 6 years old was condoned if not encouraged under the excuse of modeling boys schools on the "Greek ideal". (I always found the punishment of Oscar Wilde so ironic, since all of the men who stood on the bench to condemn him had been "fags" themselves for older boys all through their boarding school lives). Poor Kipling! He was sensitive and consumed by the tragedies he endured. For a non tragic account of an english boy who came from several generations of Anglo Indian ancestors, read Gerald Durrell's autobiographical accounts of his families attempt overcome their father's death in India by fleeing England and moving to the island of Corfu in the Greek islands. Hilarious and poignant, his books were made into several tv shows. Check for his books on Amazon. I would absolutely love to see Gerald Durrell featured on this channel! He was a formidable charmer.
