The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered

I remember seeing it when we lived in Hollywood, but Musso and Frank's Grill was the big tourist draw when I was there...along with the Playboy building on the strip that held open auditions every Thursday, so any girl from any small town could go in and apply to get into the magazine. Most would get a quick Polaroid snap and a, "We'll call you", while a few got to actually pose for a REAL photographer and hope against hope that their friend's dads would someday be traumatized by seeing them in the pages of their favorite magazine...

Does anyone remember the "Burma Shave" rhymes on billboards (Don't take that curve, at 60 per, we don't want to lose a customer...BURMA SHAVE!)? They were always kind of offensive and weird... I've been to the Madonna Inn, but it was incredibly sleazy in the 60s! My wild, Hells Angel Uncle Dean lived in Pismo Beach for years and used to take his many girlfriends there (that alone would deter me from ever wanting to spend the night there...).
