The History Guy: History Deserves to Be Remembered

Our Aussie dog has adopted three wild cats who just love her! They are inseparable! Everyone had to go to the vet for shots, etc., and now they run the house. When we used to stay at the old Rockefeller estate on St. John in the USVI (before the hurricane wiped the 70 year old place off the map a couple of years ago), there were always calico cats everywhere. The 17th century pirates and the Spanish dropped them off there occassionally, along with little burros. There had been poisonous snakes on the island, till someone brought mongoose over, and they wiped out the snakes, while the cats killed the rats and mice. The cats all over the island were all from Blackbeard the pirate or something, supposedly, but maybe that's just a story for the tourists...

@LuvBorderCollies This is ancient, but you should read the story of Ricki Tiki Tavi, the mongoose in India who heroically saves a young English boy from two huge cobras. Written by Rudyard Kipling, who lived in India, it is a crazy fantasy story that I loved as a kid! It was written in 1894, but is still amazing, weird, but amazing. It is just a short story, so you should be able to easily find it online...

That just goes to show that it's not the word of god! No supreme being would fail to give a nod to such fabulous creatures!
