@ScandiNinja It's irony... Ironic comments are a form of slightly self denigrating humor, where the person talking ruefully acknowledges that what they thought would be...is not what is, often almost humorously worse...

When I was 6 years old, the elementary school on the next street had a gas leak over a three day weekend and when the temperature dropped at about 4 am after three days of natural gas filling the sealed up buildings, the pilot light came on and blew the entire school sky high. There was a literal crater in the ground where the school had been... For YEARS after, all you had to do to get out school was tell the teacher you smelled gas fumes. They would practically throw you out...we spent years in mobile home trailers that stood in for classrooms, but gas leak fears raged no matter what... It made such an impression on me that to this day, any smell of natural gas brings back vivid flashback memories of standing in the street outside our house, watching debris raining down and flames a hundred feet high...and our normally staid neighbors in their underwear and curlers (the 60s) having full on hysterics, thinking someone had dropped the bomb...

@Fhjthnl Lol Iuyo Actually, it turned out that if school had been open, someone would have smelled the gas and all the open doors and windows would have kept it from collecting.. it was a horrible series of events that kept everything sealed up tight for so long, a cold snap coming, a 3 day weekend, then the cold hitting right at the moment when the school had been filling with gas for 3 days, the perfect storm, or blow up... Nowadays, someone would have accused the principal of an "inside job", and claimed there is no way natural gas could have blown the school that completely away... (It was fully investigated in any case)
