A bunch of Texans invested in emus to sell emu oil, it was supposed to be the next big thing. Of course, it wasn't, and a lot of them escaped or were let go, so to this day, when we are driving out in the Texas Hill Country outside of Fredricksburg to go to our ranch, it's not unusual to suddenly have an emu running 50 mph alongside your truck! They are huge and not friendly. Coming up on one when walking down to the creek, or suddenly startling one while fishing is probably worse than a mountain lion, since the big cats are pretty skittish and emus are not...
