Since I'm a thousand or so years old, I can tell you that getting into any group of people that like the same thing you do is a sure way to meet a couple of people you really like. If you love dogs, there is a dog hiking group that meets once a month to go to a new place. Any imaginable interest has a bunch of other people that want to hang occasionally with other people. The other goldmine of friendships is volunteering. You read to kids at a library, hang with seniors teaching swimming, take some people who are blind to a museum...it's intensely rewarding and puts your life into a different perspective. No one is so damaged that they cannot help another, even if it is just silent comfort of being there next to someone who is suffering. Once you do that, your entire life opens up, everything changes...

@snowsnow4231 You must not have ever really connected with anyone, but I don't know. No friend is "a waste of time". I could live the rest of my life on the memories of the insane adventures I've had with my friends. Going all over the world is much more fun with people who make you laugh till you cry...

@snowsnow4231 I'm not rich, but having friends leads to having adventures, being a decent person to be around means people like to share things with you and go places with you. If you had friends, you could get out of your situation, instead of hating everyone who you think is more entitled than you. You come off as bitter and angry. Maybe you're just unhappy and depressed. But do you see what I mean? You can apply to work in jobs around the world, volunteer to go to places, there are literally thousands of ways to go places. There is even ways to travel around the world on freight ships for almost nothing. Seriously, if you get out and look around you could be happy. You don't have to stay miserable. Look online for ways to get to where you want to go. I have gone all over, and have to buy my clothes from a thrift store. I've been so broke i couldn't afford food. But i still had friends. I still had fun.

I have a few close friends that I've known for over 25 years. Like in marriage, there have been times we didn't like the other person as much, but as time goes on, and we shared life and death, illness, and happiness, those events slowly binds us closer and closer until they are actual family. I've known a ton of people, but I know these few people are my life companions, and I'm pretty sure that I will meet some more future "family" friends as time goes on.
