@dawnwayfinder Maybe because I don't go out to parties. When I do go out, I remember why I don't go out... If I gave a party, I'd have to say, "I'm having a bunch of people over to stare at their phones later, if you'd like to drop by". Fun....

Pralay Aryan Not listening makes bad leaders and bad friends. Everyone should listen to others. Your comment that "leaders MAKE others listen" is very disturbing. Sounds completely totalitarian. No one should ever be afraid to listen to anyone. Everyone has a voice. You don't have to do what everyone says, but refusing to listen to others only increases your isolation and ignorance a thousand fold. Only the fearful and insecure don't want to hear anything but their own opinion.

@smornhin07 You are wrong, Greek culture was really taking off between 500 BC to 800 BC (BC means before christ.). There were many writers then laying the foundation for many classical works. It's well known to most scholars that many of the stories, parables and wise sayings in the bible were copied from ancient Greek, Roman, Summarian and Babylonian myths and legends. The flood, creation, the idea of heaven as a home of the god(s) were all explored in depth pre-biblical times.

@jessc408 The summarians were established around 5000 BCE. They left most of the earliest known writings that others who came after reworked. Solomon was not inventing new ideas, he was taking ideas and putting his own spin on them. There is almost nothing new in the world. Before the Summarians, Aboriginal culture was passing along oral stories that mentions a great flood and other stories later found in the bible...

@Brandon Neifert The bible wasn't put together until at least 400 years after the Summarians spread their stories that were later put into the bible. More like 2 or 3 thousand years after the oral histories were already being passed around. If you want to believe the bible was on the scene before that, it's up to you to believe what you want. It's easy to look up the timelines on Google for all the earliest stories that were recorded. If you don't want to think anything happened before jesus, it's fine with me.

@Brandon Neifert It has always been a mystery to me why anyone would want to erase the Jews from historical record, but I've never understood racism at all anyway. It's just beyond me how people can be so insecure that they could actually feel threatened by someone else's traditions, but obviously, every day some fool wants to hate someone else for not being a carbon copy of them...it's ridiculous. Or it would be, if those people weren't so violent and unbalanced.... All I have learned from reading and talking with professors is that everyone has an opinion, and they all think they are right, and everyone else is wrong. So, believe what you like. You'll always run into people with different ideas and beliefs. When people start telling me about conspiracies, I usually know that there is no discussion possible, because the person is convinced that what they believe is a fact, and nothing will ever convince them otherwise, whether or not they are wrong. To be honest, I have no personal feeling about who wrote the bible, It could be written by unicorns and it would affect my life not at all. So don't get upset on my account, since I'm always interested in information, and not in trying to force someone else into sharing my personal beliefs...

@michaelwoodard8474 I'm sure you are right. I have no idea what I wrote, but it was probably flawed. I look things up on Google before I throw out facts, usually, but I probably read it wrong, copy it wrong or google is wrong, or I was just not drinking enough coffee to jumpstart the confused wiring that is my brain. So, for whatever I did, I'm sorry if it was offensive in any way.

@Andreabay90 You are wonderful!! I'm afraid that people are so phone dependent that no one would come, but it's still a great idea! You know, I think a once a month "NO PHONES" get together would be a great idea! Especially in a bar or restaurant, even though I know there are people with kids, etc., that would not like to, they could leave their number with the restaurant, whatever, in case of emergency, just like in ancient times! I was born in 1961(!), and vividly remember my mom getting phone calls while waiting for a doctor to call; she would sit right next to the phone (smoking like a chimney, and probably drinking a gin and tonic!), when it rang, she'd grab it, and if it wasn't the doctor, she would scream at the unfortunate caller, "I'm waiting for the DOCTOR TO CALLLL!!!" and immediately hang up. The ashtray would be full of half smoked cigarettes as she got more and more tense. It was usually because we were sick, and she was always convinced we could die at any minute...fun, huh? I love cell phones, but hate going places only to see everyone engrossed by their phones.... Seriously, I love your idea! I like people who come up with simple, positive solutions, ones I almost never think of, because for some reason, I'm only brilliant in total emergencies! Really, it's the only time I get incredibly chill and think clearly, it's so weird. Maybe I had to because my mom was so hysterical 100% of the time. I never smoked, didn't drink at all until my 30s, and never had kids, I really was too afraid to put any kid through that kind of upbringing, and I was certain I might! Now that I'm old, I still think I made the right decision, but I have tons of nieces who I have fantastic relationships with, so I'm grateful!!

@cryptomanual2920 All the texts were, "before the bible". They were scrolls written by hundreds of different people at different times. They weren't put together in any form until hundreds of years after they were stored away in caves. They were useful to use as laws to control a continually fracturing society of many different people. I always thought Rome had a great idea of just proclaiming that, no matter what you were, looked like or believed in, if you were a Roman citizen, you were protected as a Roman. No one could show up and beat you for being black, or a former slave or for worshipping athena or whoever. They could not strike a citizen of rome. Very handy in that all those immigrants brought all their varied skills to the city and made it a trading center of the world and rich beyond belief.
