It's a completely different take on the character, much more adult, and darker. Someone looking for a fun comic book romp is going to be very unhappy with it. This is a psychological thriller....

I don't agree, I felt like Heath was just being himself, scary and unbalanced, but not acting....

In my opinion, Nicholson never got much into his roles. I've been watching his movies for over 30 years, and he always seems like Jack in every role. You never see the character, you see how Jack plays the character. I actually thought he ruined the shining by being so incredibly campy and playing to the camera so constantly. He always takes me out of the story. I've had that feeling about actors I've actually known, but Jack is in his own realm....

He's always really uncomfortable doing publicity. He does as little as possible, and is very aware that anything he says will be twisted or questioned or argued about. His family went through so much, so publicly, over the years, that he has trouble with the part of acting that involves being himself, selling his performance. He's the kind of actor that likes his roles to speak for him, but, I'm positive his contract called for him to do a certain number of interviews, appearances and photo calls, which he hates...

You have to understand how they process and collate information. It's not some counter adding up the numbers as they come in... People never understand that...
