@anhurtorrez I did not like LOTR films, and I loved the books! I think people who love them take it extremely personally if others don't. Once a person attaches their ego to something, they're incapable of making a dispassionate statement about it. They were done well, but didn't have a huge impact culturally on the world. If you hadn't read the books, it would be impossible to watch them just for the story, so much was left unexplained...

@rvoyles91 You are right about the money, and the specialized audience. I was referring to an overall cultural impact. Except for the Tolkien fans (which legion), there wasn't the across the board effect on society, in terms of fashion, language, etc. You may well be correct, it's just my opinion.

ANYTHING by Akira Kurosawa! I was introduced to his films as a child, and learned to understand the subtleties and depth that can be used to do more than just tell a story. I never tire of finding nuances and pathos in his films.
