thanksfernuthin I think what you were feeling was natural and unique to you, not a reflection of children as a whole. Many children like to read about characters they can imagine as friends or companions to have adventures with, or who overcome upsetting experiences. There are many other children who are excited, as you were, to explore adult characters and find ideas to emulate for a future as an adult. Then, as now, children are as different as anyone else and don't follow trends as much as we think.

atthew tuck Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was at once repellent and hypnotizing! I couldn't put it down...

Steffen Schilke You HAVE to read, "The Rains Came" by Louis Bromfield! Written in the 1930s and portraying the anglo/Indian colonies between world wars, it is a masterful capture of the lives of a small group of very different people caught by disaster. "Of Human Bondage" is another piercing study of the crushing weight of the lower classes in England at the turn of the 19th century.

theylied1776 In what way? Give some examples. I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, I just want to know what he said or wrote that gives you that opinion...

atm12 Don't use grade school insults. You have an opportunity for a good debate and ruin it by making yourself sound like a third grader who can only make a point by putting someone down. It doesn't do anything except make you look like you've got no argument or facts to back you up...

The Flagged YouTuber II To me, it's always as if that generic, angry old man up the street who calls the police if a kids football lands in his yard, hates animals and stomps around in old shorts with suspenders AND a belt grumbling about how much better the world was in his day, suddenly became president. The bombastic attitude, inflexibility, inability to understand nuance, insistence that he knows everything, and the fear that he has no idea what's going on transforms him from kind of funny but basically harmless, to an old man up the street with an ouzi....

@shebbs1 Yeah, that guy was a total insane freak. He really was disgusting. I haven't liked any of our presidents, honestly. I think that by the time they make it into the oval office, they have lost any shreds of ethics still clinging to their shriveled souls.
