The older generation tends to down play alcohol. "Its an effect on the brain", lol, Sorry. Alcohol is considered a hard drug in 2021, Google it. It sits beside heroin, meth, and tobacco. Most "heavy drinkers" are physically addicted and can't quit without major withdraws, unlike soft drugs like cannabis. Been 100% legal here in Canada since 2018. It will take a few generations, but Alc's days are numbered ,,,at least here it is, lol.

@marknorris3769 I don't drink "atall", since I was in college. . Its usually a generational drug. Alcohol industry doesn't like cannabis, that's why it not legal in many places. It goes back decades, remember weed is a"drug", "just say no to drugs", but alcohol is just alcohol or a "few pints". It takes generations to get people to snap out of it. Take tobacco as an example, almost nobody here smokes anymore. The same will happen with alc, now that people have a legal choice. If you don't drink for a few years you start to notice, most people are addicted and don't even realize it. They use excuses like "its friday, its after work, its a celebration, etc". Most drinkers can't go 30 days. Even "casual drinkers". Have you ever heard of a casual tobacco smoker...lol, same thing. They don't like this being said,,lol.
